About the Author
Captain Stacey L. Chance
I currently fly as a MD-80 Captain for one of the world's largest airlines. At the age of fourteen I started washing planes to earn money for flying lessons. By age nineteen I worked as a flight instructor, ground instructor, and aircraft mechanic to help pay for college.
In 1983 I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautics from the Engineering Department at San Jose State University and have flown professionally for thirty years with 25,000 hours of flight time.
In 2001 I created the free online Fear of Flying Help Course. Thousands have been through my course and have provided valuable feedback. I use this feedback to update the course to address the most common concerns of fearful flyers. I also draw on my own experiences observing and talking with nervous passengers.
This project requires a considerable amount of ongoing work. My students help with the costs by making small donations and buying my DVD, book, and audio CD, but my greatest reward is reading success stories of people who can now enjoy the benefits and freedom that air travel offers.
I have developed this course entirely on my own. I am not sponsored by, nor do I do make claims or recommendations with regards to any airline. I would like to share my aviation expertise. My Fear of Flying Help Course has helped many people feel better about flying. I truly believe it can help you!
I am NOT a licensed therapist or counselor. If you have a serious underlying problem in your life that may be a contributing factor in your fear of flying, I ask that you seek professional help. This course is not a substitute for professional therapy or counseling.
If you have any questions or comments please contact me.
